The Easiest Flavored Simple Syrup
We love to have family dinners and enjoy wonderful food and drinks. When I was pregnant and not yet sharing the news, I still wanted to join the dinner and fun so I made a delicious rosemary grapefruit mocktail, and this rosemary simple syrup was the star!
- Only 2 simple ingredients: sugar and rosemary
- This recipe is so versatile and the rosemary can be substituted for your favorite flavor!
- Can be kept on hand anytime you want to elevate your cocktail.
Homemade Simple Syrup Ingredients
Equal parts sugar and water are all it takes to make a classic simple syrup.
Rosemary is the star of the show in this flavored syrup. It can be easily swapped to customize the syrup.

How to Make Rosemary Simple Syrup
Simple syrup really is so simple to make!
- Add one part sugar to one part water in a saucepan. Add rosemary and bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 1 minute then remove from heat and allow to steep.
- Strain rosemary and store in a clean jar.
Ways to Use Flavored Simple Syrup
Simple syrup can be used in many different ways. The most obvious way is by adding it to a cocktail (or mocktail!) and my favorite is a rosemary grapefruit mocktail (or turn it into a cocktail by adding gin).
- Swap the lavender simple syrup to make rosemary lemonade.
- Add it as a sweetener to your coffee, latte, or tea
- Poured over cakes or desserts
- Use fruit-flavored simple syrup instead of syrup for breakfast
- Herb infusions can be used as a savory glaze
- Drizzle over a fruit salad
How to Store Simple Syrup
Allow the simple syrup to cool completely before transferring it to a storage container.
Choose a clean, airtight container for storing the syrup. Glass jars or bottles with a tight-fitting lid work well.
Simple syrup typically lasts for about 1 to 2 weeks when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
