Every year when the holidays come around I look forward to having my all-time favorite drink, a peppermint latte at Starbucks. It’s creamy, it’s cozy, and the peppermint to me is the epitome of Christmas. I enjoy having them so much but it wasn’t pretty on my wallet, so I created an at-home version I love just as much.
Ingredients
- Milk: You can use your milk of choice, but I think this latte tastes better with a more neutral flavored milk. My choice besides dairy milk is soy!
- Espresso: If you don’t have an espresso machine, brew coffee on the strongest/smallest setting on your coffee machine. For me it’s 8 ounces.
- Peppermint Simple Syrup: I prefer using a peppermint simple syrup over just peppermint extract. The sweetness from the sugar helps balance the sharpness of the extract.
To turn this into a peppermint mocha, add chocolate syrup.
Optional: Line your coffee mug with crushed candy canes and top with whipped cream for a special treat!
You will also need a milk frother.
How to Make a Peppermint Latte
- Froth the milk.
- Stir the simple syrup into the espresso.
- Pour the frothed milk over the espresso.
Ayla’s Pro Tip: Did you know you can make simple syrup and skip the stovetop? Add your water and sugar to a jar and shake vigorously until combined. Add peppermint extract and away you go!
