If you’ve been following me along for a while now, you know fitness is a huge part of my life and I am always looking for ways to stay consistent
When I came across the 100 Days to Slay movement I was beyond excited. It had everything I was looking for! A way to stay accountable, opportunities for trying new fitness, and ways to meet like-minded women.
About 100 Days to Slay
The wonderful ladies of Slay say it best…
Slay is a community of women who move our bodies intentionally for a minimum of 30 minutes daily for 100 days, all while supporting and encouraging each other. All throughout the challenge we meet for private community classes at local gyms & studios, we meet up for social events such as Bend & Brews, and we give away awesome prizes as extra incentives.
This community has been exactly what I was looking for to get more involved and connect with like-minded women.
Accountability
A core part of 100 days to slay is to commit to taking 30 minutes for yourself every day for 100 days. After you move your body for the day, you either can post to Instagram or share to the FB thread. It’s so wonderful to see a group of ladies working towards the same goal of moving every day for 30 days.
The movement doesn’t always have to be a fast-paced workout. Sometimes it can be a stretch or even a family walk (I’ve squeezed in a few walks by the ocean chasing my little one!).
Group Classes & Events
The group classes and events are the reason I joined! There is a HUGE variety of classes in various locations and it has been a blast to check out different fitness classes.
At the beginning of the program a calendar is released with all the different workout classes scheduled for the duration of the program. And then every Sunday you have a chance to register for the following week.
The classes range from spin classes to barre to hot yoga/HIIT fusion to boxing to even a self-defense class. And the events range from hiking to a yoga spot on the mountain to bend and brew classes at the local brewery. There is something for everyone!
Prizes
If prizes motivate you, well there are plenty of those here. They do a weekly prize draw as well as a grand prize draw at the end! The prizes range from $100 gift cards at a local hot spot restaurant to a pair of shoes from Hey Folk to swag bags and gift baskets.
All you have to do is post in the accountability group to be entered. And if you miss a day, no problem. It doesn’t kick you out for good, you just have to post the next day you do movement to be eligible for the next draw!
Perks
This is a wonderful bonus! From discounted classes to free classes all the way up to free weeks at participating fitness facilities, there is so much to offer. I have absolutely utilized these and have enjoyed a hot yoga and have a spin class booked next!
My Experience So Far
I have been LOVING this experience so far.
The number one thing I was looking for was finding new fitness classes around me (and maybe to meet new friends – still working on this one). To me going to fitness classes out of the home is one of my favorite self-care practices. Being in a beautiful studio, being around like-minded women, having an hour dedicated solely to me, leaving full of endorphins and feeling accomplished are a few of the reasons why I like them so much. I made a New Year goal to do 2 classes a week out of the home and so far, because of this program, I am on track!
This has absolutely delivered and trying new things has been so fun. A few classes I have tried are…
- Burn and Firm: This was maybe the most intense workout class I’ve ever done. Think HIIT class in a hot yoga room. I don’t think I’ve ever sweat like this. Signing up for 100 Days to Slay, I was hoping for experiences exactly like this one. A room full of women of different fitness levels trying something new.
- Barre: I have done barre in the past and loved it, but it’s been a long time. This reinvigorated my love! It started with a beautiful space and I was immediately at peace. And then we had a great workout. And I loved it so much, that I bought a two-week pass on my way out!
- Virtual Bootcamp: I thought it would be good to see if virtual workouts are the right fit for me. A bonus is I got an hour-long class down at 5:30 AM on a Monday without having to leave my house. The workout was a format I loved, but ultimately I learned virtual is not the right fit for me because I thrive off the energy in the studio. I’m thankful that I could try this though and learn this for myself!
I have also loved feeling a part of something and being connected to others through the accountability group. It is so cool to have people cheer me on and to be able to cheer other people on.
And ultimately, the whole point of the program is to keep us moving for 100 days. And it has definitely helped me in this way. On days when I have not worked out, it has made me mindful of how I am going to get my time in. Sometimes this means going for a walk on my lunch break instead of scrolling on my phone. Sometimes it means prioritizing this time with my family after work or in the morning on weekends. But I am definitely moving my body more and that’s the whole point!
Going Forward…
I am looking forward to staying on track and completing my 100 Days and celebrating the heck out of it. Was it a perfect 100 days? Nope. But I kept coming back and making an effort and that’s what matters.
I am going to make the most of the classes and have booked in my calendar for a Pilates Class and an Orange Theory class. And I am REALLY hoping to book a retreat… I saw Sparkling Hills calling my name.
And after the 100 Days? I am going to keep at it! I love getting movement in every day and have realized I LOVE my lunchtime walks instead of scrolling my phone. You bet I will be signing up for the next 100 days!
