Recipe for Caprese Sandwich
This has been my go-to easy, satisfying dinner for many many years.
- SO easy, simple, and very little prep needed.
- This really is the best sandwich.
- A comforting and satisfying dinner, or a quick lunch.
- Skip the Panera or Starbucks take-out and whip this up whenever a snack attack hits.
Caprese Sandwich Ingredients
- French bread: I like how crusty French bread gets on the outside and still soft and fluffy on the inside. To make this recipe even easier, buy a loaf of pre-made garlic bread from the grocery store and cook according to package directions. Swap the French bread for any bread you may have on hand, a baguette, ciabatta, focaccia, or sourdough are all great options.
- garlic butter: this is optional, but garlic butter toasted bread takes this sandwich to the next level. Swap garlic butter for pesto to make this extra basil-y.
- mozzarella: use soft mozzarella for traditional Caprese flavors.
- tomatoes: I like vine-ripened tomatoes in this sandwich, but any tomatoes should work just fine.
- basil: fresh basil is the key to this delicious sandwich.
Variations: make it with pesto, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, or a balsamic glaze drizzle.
How to Make a Caprese Sandwich
- Toast the French bread with garlic butter.
- Layer the soft mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.
- Enjoy!
Pro Tip! To take this sandwich to the next level add the soft mozzarella onto the sandwich in last minute of broiling to get it melty and delicious. Or try grilling the sandwich *insert drooling emoji here*.
