The Easiest Summer Dessert
Every summer my husband and I try to make a trip to the Okanagan which is a summer paradise. There are tons of lakes, beaches, wineries, and fruit orchards… What’s not to love?! We have started to plan our trips in August to enjoy the wonderful peach harvest and stock up on fresh peaches. There are so many delicious recipes for peaches from savory salads to baking!
- This baked peaches dish really lets peaches be the star.
- Such a simple dessert that will wow whoever you serve it to.
- Peaches become tender, juicy, and oh so good.
Ingredients & Variations
- Peaches: The riper the peaches, the better the flavor. You can use any type of peach, however freestone peaches are my go-to because they are very easy to handle.
- Butter
- Brown Sugar: will caramelize the peaches.
- Cinnamon
Variations: add a crisp crumb topping (like the one from this apple crisp).
You will simply need a baking dish to make these baked peaches! I like to find a smaller one that just fits the peaches to help keep them upright.
How to Cut Peaches
Clingstone Peaches: These are smaller peaches and are often found at the start of summer. In clingstone peaches, the pit “clings” to the flesh making it harder to get out. To remove the pit, cut opposite the natural seam across the middle. Twist the peach and use a spoon to get the pit out.
Freestone Peaches: These are larger peaches and are found later in the summer season. In freestone peaches, the pit is more “free” from the flesh of the peach and much easier to cut. To remove the pit, cut along the seam and twist the peach. The pit can then easily be removed.
How to Make Baked Peaches
- Place peach cut side up in a baking pan.
- Top with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Bake until golden.
Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream!
Tips for the Perfect Peach
Choose a riper peach for better flavor (and texture!). Look for a peach where the skin is starting to redden and it should have a little “give” when you squeeze it and not be completely firm.
Leftover baked peaches can be sliced and are delicious in oatmeal the next day.
