I love all the fresh berries in the summer and make a few trips to the berry farm to pick them. And one of my favorite things to do is make jam with them. I stock up on freezer jam, but in a pinch when I don’t want to pull a jar out of the freezer, I love this chia seed jam too!
Why Chia Jam?
Traditional jams rely on pectin to gel, but chia seeds absorb liquid and swell, creating a jammy texture all on their own. Plus, they’re loaded with fiber, omega-3s, and antioxidants — a win for your taste buds and your health.

Ingredients
- Raspberries: The star of the show! You can use fresh or frozen, but frozen raspberries may release a bit more liquid so you might need a pinch more chia to thicken. Feel free to swap in strawberries, blackberries, or blueberries.
- Chia Seeds: A natural thickener.
- Sweetener: Start with 1 tablespoon and add more to taste depending on the sweetness of your raspberries.
- Lemon Juice: Brightens the jam.
You will also need a small saucepan.
How to Make Homemade Chia Seed Jam
Raspberry chia seed jam is very simple to make and so healthy.
- Cook the berries: In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the raspberries until they start to break down — about 5 minutes. Use the back of a spoon to mash them to your desired consistency.
- Sweeten and flavor: Turn off the heat and stir in the sweetener, chia seeds, and lemon juice if using. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
- Cool and store: Let the jam sit for 5–10 minutes. The chia seeds will thicken the mixture as it cools. Once the jam has thickened, transfer it to a clean jar or container. Store in the fridge for up to 1 week, or freeze in small portions for longer storage.
