Welcome to a bullet journal for beginners guide! Bullet journalling may seem overwhelming at first but this series will guide you through the ins and outs and you’ll be ready to start your own bullet journal in no time!
This is part 5 of the series! In this part of the series we will go over annual collections. I will give you a list of ideas for when you start up your bullet journal!
Annual spreads/annual collections/yearly spreads/yearly collections (I use them all interchangeably) are spreads you will put at the beginning of your bullet journal. Typically they are spreads you will make one time in your bullet journal and then continue to reference back to. For example one of my favorite annual spreads is my birthday tracker. In my birthday tracker I will make it pretty and add everyones birthday for the year. I don’t need to have another birthday tracker throughout the year, I can always just reference the one I made.
When I first started my bullet journal I spent hours and hours looking up different spreads I could put in my bullet journal. I had so much fun creating them but then the front half of my bullet journal I hardly used!
The key to having a successful bullet journal is to know what works for YOU. If you have time and like to make it pretty? That’s wonderful. Like it bare bones and straight to the point? That’s great too! Can keep up with 100 spreads? I’m so jealous! However, it can feel like a lot and you might not end up using what you start with. And that’s okay.
I do not use a lot of bullet journal spreads as they were not useful to me after all. My general rule of thumb now is I use spreads that I tend to only reference when I’m setting up my monthly (i.e. my birthday tracker or chore chart) or need to glance back (i.e. my password tracker or grid spacing spread). I have found having annual spreads that I have to update does not really work for me, but it might work for you!
Without further ado here is a list of different annual collections…!

What do I put in my annual spreads?
In my first bullet journal I made a lot of annual spreads. They were super fun to make but I ended up having pages and pages of spreads I did not use. I try not to have any yearly spreads that need to be filled out frequently. I have them more so as reference pages or things I visit when I am creating my monthly spreads.
In Part 7A of this bullet journal series I will do an annual plan with me where I provide what my actual spreads look like at the beginning of my bullet journal.
Here are my must have annual spreads…
- Future Log
- Birthday Tracker (to feed into my monthlies so I don’t miss a birthday)
- When Did I Last…
- Chore Chart
- Books I want to Read
- Joint Credit Card Expense Tracker
- Password Tracker
- Grid Spacing
I hope this gave you some great ideas for your next bullet journal set up! What new annual collection are you excited to try next? Let me know!

I have been patiently waiting for this post! So glad it is up!! Slowly I have been getting my bullet journal ready for 2019 but I felt stuck, like I had to think of every tracker I may possibly even consider using in the future! I like your idea of not having annual ones you update all the time, but more for reference when setting up your monthly spreads. Definitely going to work on creating some of these suggestions! 🙂
