Over the last several years I have fallen in love with summertime peaches. We travel to the Okanagan and buy them by the caseload. Each bite is bursting with juicy peach flavor and I can’t get enough!
When I come home with 20 (or sometimes 40!) pounds I am always looking for ways to use them up. Whether it be peach muffins, peach pancakes, peach cobbler cookies, or trying a savory option like this peach arugula salad, the uses are endless. I realized one use I was missing was using them in a refreshing summer drink like a peach iced tea, and it all starts with this peach simple syrup!
3 Simple Ingredients
- Water: Often simple syrups use a 1:1 sugar-to-water ratio, but this recipe uses a little more water since it is simmered a little longer than a traditional simple syrup to get the most flavor out of the peaches.
- Sugar: Use granulated sugar.
- Peaches: Any peaches will work just fine, but the riper the peach the better the flavor! In fact, this is a great use for overripe peaches that are just past where you may want to eat them. I love freestone peaches when I can get my hands on them in the summer for ease, but any work.
You will also need a saucepan and a fine mesh strainer.
