You know when you have a vision in mind and then when you execute it and it doesn’t meet your expectations… This project was the complete opposite! Our nursery turned out better than I could have ever imagined. It is by far my favorite room in the house (and the puppies favorite room too!).
The moment I found out we were having a boy, I knew right away I wanted to do a woodlands themed nursery. I was searching Pinterest and saw our crib sheet (that yes, I ended up buying the exact one I found!) and it became the inspiration for the whole room.
My momma came to town to help me put the nursery together and I was so grateful. We had it done pretty early (22 weeks) but I knew exactly what I wanted so we just decided to get it done. I took the Friday off work and we powered through! It literally took us the full weekend to get it done. We brainstormed Thursday night, shopped our hearts out Friday, and then reupholstered the little rocking chair, and then the rest of the weekend was spent putting it all together!
Okay, enough of the back story. Time to get to the good stuff!
The Crib
The one side of the room is the cozy side and has the crib and the nursing chair. I was lucky to have a hand me down chair that I ordered this slip cover from Amazon to go over the chair. It was by far a better price than anything we could find in stores. It is a little big but for the price we will make it work!
The crib itself is the Sundvik crib from Ikea. I am thrilled with the way it turned out. It is a 3 in 1 crib and can turn into a toddler bed when we are ready for it. The quality looks beautiful and it was super easy to put together.
As I mentioned the crib sheet was the basis for the whole nursery. When I saw it on Pinterest I fell in love. It is the Lolli Living Kayden Woodlands fitted crib sheet.
The adorable pictures above the crib were prints from Etsy linked here. I loved that the style of the woodlands animals matched the style of the crib. It was a set of six and included a fox, hedgehog, rabbit, bear, deer, and raccoon. I liked the look of the three pictures but have the other downloads if I ever change my mind. I printed off the pictures just from staples and used these frames from ikea which were only $7.99 CAD per frame.
The finishing touch I found for this part of the room is this adorable pillow. It was on clearance from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and is the Ellen Degeneres brand. As I was putting this room together I became obsessed with hedgehogs and this pillow was the perfect addition!
The Reading Nook
This is by far my favorite part of the nursery. When dreaming of our little man, one thing we know for sure is we want reading to be an important part of our life with him! We want to read him stories and encourage his imagination. So when designing his nursery I started looking at how to incorporate a little library.
The biggest project we took on in this whole nursery was reupholstering this little chair. My mom was gifted this chair as a hand me down from another family when my sister was born… 23 years ago! Since then my mom has reupholstered it when my youngest sister was born. She then handed it down to me for my little one. So this chair has been around a long time and I am THRILLED to have it!
It took us probably close to 8 hours to do! We had to strip off the old fabric, measure the new fabric, and then put it back together. Sounds simple right? We thought so too! But I am so happy with the way it turned out. The fabric was from fabricland and it is absolutely the perfect fit in the room.
The puppy on the chair was the first gift my momma bought for baby on the day we found out we were having a boy. It is the Jellycat brand which I have quickly fallen in love with. It is softer than I could have ever imagined and I can picture my little boy carrying it with him everywhere.
The little blanket basket is from amazon and was a steal at less than $20. It’s perfect to hold the blankies or down the road more toys!
And of course the star of the room is these decals… I mean how sweet are they! My mom found them off amazon and I knew right away we had to have them. It took two packs to do this whole wall but I did remove some animals from the pack that I thought didn’t fit the woodlands theme.
I thought the style of these decals also matched the style of the animals on the crib sheet and in the pictures which I was so happy about! The room looks so cohesive.
I’m obsessed with this wall! And so is our little Ava.
The Dresser
I have wanted an excuse to have this dresser for years but have never had a spot for it. When we were designing the nursery I knew it would be perfect! We are using this as our dresser but also will be putting a change table on top. This is the classic Hemnes dresser from Ikea.
We will put the change pad (going with this Skip Hop changing pad as it’s easy to clean and can sit right on top of the dresser) under the mirror. Then the drawers right below it will have all of the diaper stuff we need.
The mirror was one we found at Homesense. And the blacks shelves are from Walmart! Ikea surprisingly didn’t have the style or size that I was looking for. The little owl on the shelf is also Jellycat. The planter is from Ikea. And the sweet wooden wind up music box is a little carousel gifted to us from my father-in-law. We did leave some space on the shelves to put a couple more knick knacks that I am sure we are going to collect.
The only thing missing from our little dresser-scape is my splurge item… This little hedgehog diaper caddy. I have been obsessed with hedgehogs when making our little mans nursery and I know this will be the perfect final addition.
We’ve started to go through and organize our dresser as well! I’m sure this will change a million times when I figure out exactly what we need and how it makes sense. But for now I love to stare at the little baby clothes and imagine our life with our little man.
Lastly at the entrance to the nursery we have this small wall (jutting out from the closet) that my husband put these hooks up. They are perfect for hanging the fox blanket that was gifted to us by my Auntie that fits SO well with the theme and for the little hooded towels for babe.
Once we do our maternity photos we are going to blow one up and hang it over the hooks as a family photo!
Well that is our nursery! I am obsessed with the way it turned out. As you can see we all love (including the puppies) to spend time in this room. It is perfectly curated and my favorite place in the house to be. I’m sure there will be tweaks as we prepare for baby and start bringing more baby stuff into the house and figure out how to make it work with our little babe. But for now I think it is absolutely perfect!
What do you think?! I’d love to hear your thoughts!
